The author is committed to the value of open access. This enables a more equitable, collaborative, and sustainable global system of knowledge exchange. Openness reduces barriers to access, innovation, and sharing. The Open Educational Resources (OER) team and authors at the University of Arizona are committed to providing textbook materials that are accessible and usable to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.
The webbook version of this resource has been designed and formatted with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 (Level AA) in mind. Specific accessibility features of this book include:
- Content is organized using sequential headings and subheadings.
- All images include alt text or are marked as decorative.
- Links open in the same window.
- Linked text is descriptive and makes sense on its own. The exceptions are links in references and footnotes, where raw HTML is more appropriate.
- Link text conveys the destination and expected behavior of the link.
- Documents have been assessed for accessibility to the best of the author’s ability and within the limits of available permissions.
- Tables include header rows and organize data, except where such rows are not appropriate for representing or organizing the data.
- Fonts are readable with appropriate type, size, and color contrast.
- Webbook content has been reviewed for accessibility using the Editora11y plugin.
